at forefront of the international fashion market
With London Fashion Week in full swing, the
London Development Agency is working alongside
the
British Fashion Council to
ensure the city retains its international position as one of the key centres for fashion and that
the small businesses that dominate this sector are supported. Organised by the British Fashion
Council, London Fashion Week is worth £20 million to London's economy, in terms of direct spend,
and generates orders in the region of £100 million.

Creative sector set to benefit from new centre
A new creative business centre has been set up called
Metropolitan Works and will offer
state of the art technology, training and workspace for designers, engineers, and
artists. "London's creative sector makes a significant contribution to London's economy. It is
filled with talented people, drawn to the capital from across the world, who add to the
excitement and buzz of London life," said Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

London is the brightest star at the Oscars
It was a monumental night for the British film industry at the 81st Annual Academy Awards in
LA. Ten Oscars were received for British films, including eight for Slumdog Millionaire, an
entirely British funded film, including Best Motion Picture. London theatre's influence stretches
beyond Shaftesbury Avenue and is shown by the success of the film version of Frost/Nixon,
itself nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor. Frost/Nixon began its life as a play at a not for
profit London warehouse, and went on to the West End and Broadway before becoming a film.
