The company
In January 2003, Nissan Motor Company established its new European design headquarters in Paddington, Central London. The futuristic studio houses 60 international designers, modellers and support staff, who work on projects for European and global markets.
Why Nissan chose London
David Godber, General Manager, said: ”We made an important decision and moved to London. We considered several other cities, including Geneva, Munich, Barcelona, Milan and Paris, but we chose London based on a specific need. You can’t really compare London to anywhere else – it’s a European city and it’s a global city. It’s a great mix of different cultures, nationalities and lifestyles. London has the best of everything from everywhere, which is why it attracts the best designers.
"And the city definitely influences the creative process. Our designers bring London to work with them – they’re inspired by its architecture, its clubs and bars, its music scene. They also monitor influential areas of London’s design community – the latest trends in fashion, art and product design. So much of the city’s energy feeds into the studio. London is at the centre of everything, and that’s where we want Nissan to be.”
How Think London helped
”Think London introduced us to the people we needed to know – in both London’s business community and the public sector. Through Think London we had the contacts and the presence in the city to make our launch event in 2003 a huge success. And we’ve kept our connections with Think London – the organisation provides us with invaluable support services now we’re established in the city.”
