  • train_149_110Plan your trip around London: find the best way to get from A to B with Transport for London’s Journey Planner. Approximate journey times available too
  • Plan your trip around the UK: by public transport, aeroplane or car
  • Download London maps: for the city’s underground trains, buses, roads, trams, Docklands Light Railway and river services
  • Underground trains: there are 329 km of ‘tube’ lines in London. Check out services on the network’s 12 lines in real time
  • Tickets and fares: find out how to buy tickets for all London and UK transport services. Learn more about cheaper travel cards including the Oyster card — a pass for UK residents that will save you money while travelling around the capital
  • Taxis: London’s distinctive ‘black cabs’ are the only taxis allowed to ply for hire on the city’s streets. Drivers have to pass the ‘knowledge’ exam, proving they know the quickest routes through the capital. London is also home to hundreds of private mini-cab firms, with cars bookable through shops, the telephone or online. Beware private cabbies touting for business on the street — many are not insured to carry passengers.
  • Cycling: London is striving to become a sustainable world city and cycling is part of the strategy for a greener transport network. Could you cycle to work?
  • River taxis: one of the best ways to travel across London is on the River Thames. Services are fast and frequent
  • Driving: travelling around London by car can be challenging — most roads are extremely busy and parking spaces can be difficult to find. You will also have to pay a congestion charge if you drive in central London
  • Congestion charge: London’s congestion charging zone operates from 7am to 6pm from Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). The standard daily charge is £8
  • International flights: there are direct flights to 273 cities worldwide from London’s five international airports — London City Airport, Stansted, Luton, Gatwick and Heathrow. Heathrow is Europe’s largest air hub
  • High-speed trains to mainline Europe: there are direct train services from London to Paris, Brussels, Lille, Avignon, Disneyland and the French Alps plus connections to more than 100 places in Europe
  • Ferries to Europe: ferries run from England to numerous locations including Ireland, France, The Netherlands, Denmark, the Channel Islands, Spain and Belgium
