More than 100 columns, each 5 metres tall have already been constructed to support the podium of the Stadium's west and south stands. London has been voted the best UK city at the eleventh Condé Nast Traveller Reader Travel Awards. Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "Winning the best UK city award is testament to the wealth and variety of attractions London has to offer." The awards ceremony was held at the Science Museum. The iPass Mobile Broadband Index tracks the wireless use patterns of mobile workers around the world. The report shows worldwide business use of iPass Wi-Fi hotspots increased by 46% from the first half of 2007 to the first half of 2008.

The Mayor of London has made a commitment to a 60% reduction in carbon emissions by 2025. The commitment includes ten high-technology 'Low Carbon Zones' across London by 2012 to deliver 'greener', low carbon solutions and deliver reduced energy bills; £6 million to clean up and improve London's rundown green spaces, and 10,000 new street trees.
